Martin Luther King Lesson Plan

I Have A Dream – 50 Years Later

Martin Luther King Jr. Lesson PlanThis summer I had the honor of taking my own children to the Lincoln Memorial steps in Washington DC where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I have a dream speech” (50 years ago today). I videotaped my own kids sharing their current dreams, and taught them a little about why this was such a historic site. We also took a ride on the Smithsonian Carousel on the National Mall, and learned that this ride is an important part of America’s civil rights history. My son was surprised to hear that there was once  a time when kids with different skin color could be denied a ride on a merry-go-round.

If you haven’t tried our Martin Luther King lesson plan in class, we hope you’ll share it this week or when you return to class in September. The free podcast preview is available in our podcast archives and on iTunes.
