Labor Day (US)
Labor Day takes place in the US on the first Monday of September. This holiday in recognition of workers was established in 1894 following a nationwide strike.
Today’s podcast offers an audio preview of our Holidays & Events lesson plan on Labor Day. The full lesson comes with a warmup, a reading, comprehension and discussion questions, and a vocabulary review.
We also have a ready-made lesson and podcast on the Canadian holiday: Labour Day. This holiday has a different spelling and a different history than the American holiday. In other nations, laborers are recognized on May Day (May 1).
